- Rebuild your desktop every quarter.
- Optimize your hard disk at least 2x a year for a home system, 4x a year for business systems.
- Use font suitecases to reduce RAM used by the system.
- Avoid having TrueType and Type 1 fonts of the same font family (e.g., TrueType Courier and Type 1 Courier bold).
- Don't leave files on your desktop. This causes the system finder files not to update correctly.
- Run "Disk First Aid" or "Norton Utilities for Macintosh" at lease once a month (worst case scenario - every other month).
- Be careful of the source for any shareware or freeware software. It could be the fastest way to infect your system with a virus...
- Never run your system without virus software.
- Good sources of Macintosh infomation - MacUser and MacWorld magazines.
- Avoid using virtual memory if possible.
